Is There Really No Such Thing as an Eczema Cure?

If you’re on a quest to find an eczema cure, don’t be discouraged. We have all probably read or heard the dreaded statement, “There is no cure for eczema”, but is that really true?

Webster’s Dictionary defines the word “cure” as:

  1. Recovery or relief from a disease, or
  2. a complete or permanent solution or remedy

Based on these definitions, there are most certainly “cures” for eczema for many cases, but they may not be in a form that you may think.

Finding a cure for eczema that lasts

Eczema manifests in different forms, and the causes of eczema differ for each individual.    For instance, some people may feel an uncomfortable itch when they are exposed to extreme hot or cold weather.  Others may have reactions to airborne allergens, such as mold, pet dander, and dust mites.  Stress is a common instigator of eczema breakouts.  Other known causes are food allergies as well as allergies to certain chemicals found in scented lotions, soaps, shampoos, etc.

There is no magic pill, potion, lotion, or surgical procedure that will eradicate eczema for everyone. Bottom line, curing your eczema will be a full-time commitment and require a lifestyle change.  In order to find the best cure for eczema for your specific condition you will need to:

  1. Research the type of eczema you have
  2. Understand the underlying causes of your flare-ups, and
  3. Eliminate those causes

This may sound simplistic, but finding a cure is far from being simple.  That being said, many eczema sufferers have “cured” their condition by doing one or more the following:

  • Changing the diet from processed, packaged foods to live whole foods.
  • Keeping a food diary and eliminating any food allergies.
  • Trading in heavily perfumed chemical cosmetics for more natural products.
  • Relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga.
  • Undergoing traditional Chinese medicine such as acupuncture

Of course more severe cases of eczema may take longer to cure, and you should always be under supervision of a health care professional.  Truth be told, managing your eczema may be a lifetime battle.  But if you’re committed and persistent you will find that long-term relief that you are looking for.
